But Nicole is my middle name

Any of you out there go by your middle name? If you do, then you will totally relate.

When my parents named me, they decided that Firstname Nicole sounded better than Nicole Firstname. Sounds innocent enough to the average person, BUT...

Almost every. single. day of my life, I have had to answer to more than one name. My bank accounts, payroll, credit cards, student registrations, first days of school, house, bills, checks, are all under my Firstname. So whenever I sign something, call someone about anything, order things, sign up on websites (you get the idea), they all must have my firstname in order to match legal records or billing names. It makes me want to reach through the phone (or computer) and put a vulcan death grip on them.

These poor people on the other end know nothing of the pain I endure explaining why I answer my phone " this is Nicole". They say they have the wrong number or that they are looking for firstname. To which I respond, "that is me, I go by Nicole, which is my middle name". This gets really old.

Add to that changing your last name when you get married, then you are totally clusterfucked. The only upside is that I ALWAYS know when it is a telemarketer on the phone.
