That which does not kill us...

...makes us stronger, or at the very least clinically insane. My long journey through infertility, adoption (and now parenting), and weight loss.

Stupidest comment ever

A very well meaning temp at the front desk of our office and I were chatting today and I showed her some recent pics of Jackson. Since her son is just a few months older we had a lot in common. For some reason the adoption came up and she didn't know about it (since she is a new temp here).

She looked at me in utter disbelief and said, "Do you love him, I mean, love him like he was yours... Like if you had him yourself? (picture her using her hands and arms to act out a childbirth).

To which I responded "absolutely; I would die for him, he is everything to us".

Then the kicker, she says "I just didn't think that people could love children that weren't their own". I couldn't even bring myself down to her level to point out the crappy use of negative language, because I was stuck on the sheer idiocy of the overall comments.

You have to be kidding. I thought that we were living in a much more enlightened society these days. And the funniest thing, she was being dead serious and actually thought that she was being nice.

Wow, all I can say is wow...

Birth Test...

Your birth date describes who we are, what we are good at and whatour inborn abilities are. It also points to what we have to learnand the challenges we are facing. To figure out your Birth Number, add all the numbers in the Birth Date together, like in the example, until there is only one digit. A Birth Number does not prevent you from being anything you want tobe, it will just color your choice differently and give you a little insight.

Example:
March 20, 1950
3 + 20 + 1950 = 1973
1 + 9 + 7 + 3 = 20
2 + 0 = 2

Keep going until you end up with a single digit number.

2 is the Birth Number to read for the birth date in the example.

Don't know how to feel

I opened my email last night and had a message from our attorney. She was letting me know that she is basically done with our adoption case and is sending the final bit of paperwork to us in the next week. I also assume that this means we might actually have some money coming back to us, since I think of that last installment there might be $3-4k left.

But she also attached a document that had an available adoption situation from a colleague of hers. In fact, it was the attorney that represented our birthmother. This situation is perfect, everything we were looking for the first time around. My heart was racing, I was excited, nervous, sad all at the same time. We aren't in a place to adopt again this quickly. Jackson just turned 7 months old. It will take us a while to recover from the $35k for the adoption but just that there was a situation coming to us out of the clear blue sky made me think long and hard. DH was hesitant to even consider another child or adoption, but even he said 'you want to do it again this soon'. Not if we wanted to do it all, but this soon.

I know in my heart that we have to let this one pass us by, but I am excited to know that the next time around (and I am more confident now that there will be a next time around) that there are good situations out there. And we seem to be on a couple of short lists, which makes me even happier. I told the attorney to keep us on that distribution for good.

I guess I need to moderate the comments

I hadn't needed to address this at all until now. At least a few more people know I am alive, lol. I might have to start moderating comments until the weird advertisers leave me alone. We'll see...

It's all downhill from here

or at least that is what I told DH yesterday when he turned 35. It surprises me how slow the days seem to go, yet how fast the years slip away. We had a good time for the bday celebration. I made a cake, we went to dinner with friends, and he got the P$2 he has wanted for some time now. I got some additional accessories that I will give him for Valentine'$ so it was easy shopping for both this year.

Jackson is growing like a weed. Cruising the furniture and eating up a storm. He is finally sitting with us at the 'table' to eat and started on some of the solid foods. Bittersweet, I know...
